October 1, 2025 — The BNB Chain X account hack has shaken the crypto community after hackers took control of the official profile with nearly 4 million followers.
The compromised account was used to post phishing links disguised as Wallet Connect prompts, drawing immediate warnings from Binance founder Changpeng “CZ” Zhao.
The BNB Chain X account hack was detected early on October 1, 2025. Hackers posted multiple phishing links designed to mimic legitimate wallet prompts, tricking users into giving away access. CZ quickly confirmed the breach on his own profile, warning users not to interact with the links.
BNB Chain’s team contacted X, submitted takedown requests for the phishing domains, and regained control of the account within hours. In total, 10 phishing links were posted, resulting in about $8,000 in stolen funds across multiple chains.
Blockchain security firm SlowMist tied the phishing domains to Inferno Drainer, a notorious phishing-as-a-service group. Attackers reportedly used a trick of letter substitution swapping “i” for “l”, to make domains appear authentic.
Inferno Drainer has built its reputation by providing affiliates with phishing websites mimicking popular crypto platforms. Its involvement signals how professionalized phishing has become within the crypto industry.
The BNB Chain X account hack illustrates a critical risk: attackers can compromise even verified and official crypto accounts, putting millions of users at risk. With phishing attacks rising, industry experts warn that platforms must strengthen operational security measures, while users must remain skeptical of all links even from trusted sources.
CZ reinforced this point:
“Always check the domains very carefully, even from official X handles. Stay SAFU!”
This shows that while the BNB Chain hack losses were smaller, the scale of exposure and attack sophistication highlight systemic risks.
BNB Chain is among the most active blockchain ecosystems, supporting billions in DeFi and thousands of applications. Security lapses like this carry reputational risks, particularly when users link hacks to project credibility. While the $8,000 loss is small compared to past incidents, exposing 4 million followers turns it into a major warning sign for the industry.
Real voices. Real reactions.
@BNBCHAIN Dude really hacked BNB Chain just to walk away with $13k net? 😂 I can’t stop laughing. Bro was spamming Endless all day for a measly $13k 😭🤣.
@BNBCHAIN Only $8K? Can you clarify how that estimate was calculated and audited?
@BNBCHAIN Plot twist: The compensation link for the victims will be the actual phishing link
