December 4, 2025 – Crust Network has integrated its Crust Files service into the Base app, marking a notable step for decentralized storage adoption across Web3. Announced on January 4, 2026, the integration enables Base users to upload, manage, and secure files directly within the app using Crust’s blockchain-based infrastructure. As a result, users gain on-chain data permanence and ownership without relying on centralized cloud providers.
The collaboration aligns with Base’s broader effort to enhance everyday Web3 experiences across social, trading, and discovery features. Crust, a Substrate-based layer-1 network, focuses on IPFS-compatible storage with strong redundancy and privacy guarantees, positioning the integration as a practical bridge between user-friendly apps and decentralized infrastructure.
Market response around the announcement has been positive. Crust Network’s native token, CRU, rose roughly 85% in the week leading up to the integration, significantly outperforming the broader crypto market. As of early 2026, CRU trades near $0.049, reflecting growing investor optimism tied to Crust’s expanding ecosystem and partnerships.
Meanwhile, community discussions highlighted the integration’s potential to drive usage rather than short-term speculation. Observers noted that embedding decentralized storage directly into widely used applications could support sustained demand for storage services over time.

Despite the upbeat reaction, challenges remain. Decentralized storage solutions must compete with established cloud providers on reliability, cost, and ease of use. Although Crust emphasizes encryption, redundancy, and privacy, user adoption will depend on consistent performance and intuitive interfaces.
In addition, broader regulatory and compliance considerations around data storage and privacy could influence enterprise and institutional uptake. As decentralized infrastructure scales, networks like Crust will need to balance permissionless access with evolving global data requirements.
Past Integrations :
Crust Network specializes in IPFS-compatible decentralized storage, maintaining over 30 replicas per file to ensure durability and availability. Its architecture supports encrypted, on-chain file management, allowing users to retain ownership while distributing data across a decentralized network.
The Base app, built on the Base layer-2 network backed by Coinbase, benefits from low transaction costs and tight ecosystem integration. Prior to this launch, Crust appeared on the Base Services Hub and offered builders free storage credits, signaling a longer-term strategy to attract developers.
Beyond Base, Crust has pursued cross-chain initiatives, including AI-focused storage use cases and data availability solutions. Analysts suggest these efforts position Crust as a neutral data layer for DePIN and AI workloads, where verifiable storage plays a critical role.
As Web3 applications mature, the Crust–Base integration underscores a broader shift toward composable infrastructure, where decentralized storage becomes a default component rather than an add-on.
