A wallet tied to the Ethereum Foundation has sold 7,294 ETH worth $33.25 million over the past three days, according to on-chain data from Lookonchain. The move has caught market attention given both the timing and the wallet’s history of large-scale ETH transactions.
The selling spree began on August 13, when the wallet swapped 1,695 ETH for $7.72 million in DAI at a price of $4,556. It continued over the following days with additional sales:
By August 16, the total reached 7,294 ETH sold. The trades were executed in chunks and at consistent price points, suggesting a measured profit-taking strategy rather than a panic sell-off.
This wallet has a long connection to the Ethereum Foundation. In 2017, it received 20,756 ETH directly from the foundation’s official wallet. More recently, during the bear market of June 2022, it accumulated 33,678 ETH for $40.2 million at an average of just $1,193 per coin. With ETH now above $4,450, that accumulation has turned into a massive gain.
Ethereum is currently trading near its all-time highs, over $4,400, and such large-scale sales inevitably raise questions about market impact. While the transactions appear structured to avoid major price disruption, some traders worry that profit-taking from foundation-linked wallets could weigh on sentiment during a critical bullish phase.
