July 21, 2025 — Ethereum core developers have scheduled the much-anticipated Ethereum Fusaka upgrade for early November, aiming to boost the network’s scalability and performance.
Two public testnets are set to go live in September and October, while development work on the follow-up hard fork, Glamsterdam, is already underway.
The Ethereum Fusaka upgrade includes 11 new EIPs, with EIP-7825 standing out for its focus on improving resistance to network attacks and enhancing scalability. Developers have proposed raising the gas limit to 150 million to accommodate more transactions and reduce network congestion.
To maintain the upgrade timeline, developers decided to drop EIP-7907, which would have introduced changes to contract code size and gas metering. This move is intended to simplify testing and avoid delays.
The tentative release date for the Ethereum Fusaka upgrade is designed to align with Devconnect, which will be held from November 17 to 22 in Buenos Aires. Ethereum protocol contributors have emphasized the need to keep the development cycle tight to meet this goal.
In a recent statement, Ethereum developer Nixo said, “If we want to ship by Devconnect, we need our timeline tight. We’ll go over that in detail.”
While Fusaka is nearing deployment, Ethereum’s next upgrade Glamsterdam is already being planned. The final list of features to be included will be confirmed during the August 1 AllCoreDevs meeting.
Potential features include reducing block time from 12 seconds to 6 seconds, which could significantly improve the user experience and DeFi efficiency. The Glamsterdam upgrade is expected to launch sometime in 2026.
Ethereum validators have signaled growing support for raising the Layer 1 gas limit to 45 million, a move that would reduce transaction fees and improve scalability. In an X post, Vitalik Buterin confirmed that 50% of stakers support the proposal.
This gas limit increase aligns with the broader goals of the Ethereum Fusaka upgrade and could be implemented in future hard forks depending on validator consensus.
