Ewha Womans University’s PAI Lab, led by Assistant Professor Junhyug Noh, is now part of Theta’s expanding academic network. The lab is adopting Theta EdgeCloud Hybrid, a decentralized GPU platform combining community-run NVIDIA cards, A100s, H100s, and AWS AI chips. It also gives access to Theta’s mobile Android GPU edge network.
This partnership signals that top-tier academia is embracing decentralized compute. It adds momentum to Theta’s growth and highlights how DePIN infrastructure is unlocking flexible, scalable, and cost-effective AI research.
The PAI Lab specializes in AI fields like:
Theta’s platform gives the lab the flexibility to run experiments on diverse GPUs—from high-end H100s to low-cost community nodes—plus use mobile edge GPUs for accurate, on-device tasks.
“We can finally iterate quickly across models and modalities without infrastructure bottlenecks,” says Prof. Noh.
“Theta is the only decentralized platform offering this level of scalable, practical compute,” adds Mitch Liu, Theta Labs CEO.

This is one chapter in a rapidly growing network of academic collaborators:
| Institution | Region | Research Focus |
|---|---|---|
| University of Oregon | USA | Distributed systems, federated learning |
| George Mason University | USA | AI security, XR, DeFi/Web3 testing |
| Hongik University | South Korea | AI/ML, big data, IoT, cloud-native compute |
| Yonsei University | South Korea | AI agents using AWS Trainium on EdgeCloud |
| Stanford University | USA | AI optimization and reasoning research |
| Chung-Ang University | South Korea | Intelligent information processing |
Theta’s infrastructure now supports advanced AI across multiple continents, proving DePIN’s relevance in both academic and frontier AI labs.
Ewha Womans University adoption of Theta EdgeCloud marks a clear signal: decentralized compute is going mainstream. This move underscores how Theta’s DePIN model is entering serious AI domains, academic labs that demand flexible, cost-effective, and large-scale GPU capacity.
