Filecoin Awards $3.68M to 14 Ecosystem Projects in First ProPGF Batch

Filecoin’s Public Goods Funding initiative has wrapped up its first-ever Prospective Public Goods Funding (ProPGF) round, allocating $3.68 million to 14 teams building core infrastructure, developer tools, and services for the decentralized storage network.

The ProPGF program, run by Protocol Labs is designed to fund forward-looking projects that can strengthen Filecoin and the wider open-source ecosystem. It complements the network’s RetroPGF track, which rewards past impact, by backing initiatives with strong future potential.

How Batch 1 Played Out

The inaugural round attracted 38 applicants, with 23 shortlisted and 14 ultimately selected by a committee of Filecoin ecosystem experts. The community-led panel applied rigorous due diligence to ensure that every dollar supports projects with meaningful, long-term value.

Funded teams span a wide range of use cases, from high-performance data retrieval and programmable deal allocation to developer experience and storage provider tooling.

Some notable awards include:

• FIL Ponto – $500K for developer tooling to expand Filecoin apps.
• CIDgravity Gateway – $500K for advanced data retrieval and management.
• Filecoin Retrieval Checkers (FilCDN) – $500K for scalable, fast content delivery.
• IPNI – $480K to strengthen retrieval infrastructure.
• Curio Storage – $500K for durable storage provider software.

Other funded efforts include Fil Note, Game Theoretic Fil+ Allocator, Titan Network, and EverMedia Vault.

Accountability and Transparency

Initial disbursements begin this week, with teams required to submit progress updates to ensure transparency. Funding decisions used tools like Snapshot and Questbook to record results on-chain.

What’s Next

Batch 2 of ProPGF is set for October 2025, while Batch 3 of the complementary RetroPGF program launches in late September. Future phases of ProPGF aim to add direct on-chain community voting and create network-based funding structures for sustainability.
