Football Stars Face Lawsuit Over Omegapro Pyramid Scheme

A group of prominent football stars, including Ronaldinho, Vinicius Jr., and Luís Figo, may soon face legal action for promoting Omegapro, a pyramid scheme that reportedly raised over $3 billion from more than 3 million customers. Hundreds of affected users are preparing to sue, claiming they were misled into trusting the company due to endorsements by these high-profile athletes.

Omegapro, which began operations in 2020, promised investors yields exceeding 300% within 14 months. However, as time progressed, the company extended this period to 26 months by 2022. In November 2022, Omegapro claimed it was hacked, ceasing payments and leaving many investors without their funds. The fallout has led to widespread allegations of fraud.

• Football Stars Involved: Some of the stars implicated in the lawsuit include former legends like Ronaldinho, Figo, Iker Casillas, and Carles Puyol, as well as current players like Vinicius Jr. Many of them deny any direct involvement with Omegapro, stating that their participation in promotional games for the company was linked to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) government.
• Victims Speak Out: Several users have come forward, stating that they invested in Omegapro due to the presence of these footballers at promotional events. One customer, identified as Dolores, expressed disbelief, saying, “How could it be a scam? The footballers were involved, and the company logo was projected onto that skyscraper in Dubai!”
• Legal Actions Loom: The lawsuit is being spearheaded by attorney Lars Olofsson, who has vowed to take legal action against all celebrities linked to Omegapro events. Olofsson stated, “All football players who have been seen at Omegapro events will be sued by us in London.”

Two of Omegapro’s co-founders, Robert Velghe and Andreas Szakacs, are currently in Turkish custody, while two other founders remain at large.

The unfolding legal battle raises significant questions about the responsibilities of celebrities and influencers in endorsing financial products, especially those that later turn out to be fraudulent.
