Giggle Academy donations surpass $1M in 12 hours, fueled by meme coin GIGGLE. CZ praises utility of meme tokens in education funding.

September 22, 2025 — Giggle Academy, the non-profit education platform founded by Binance CEO Changpeng “CZ” Zhao, has received over $1 million in Giggle Academy donations within 12 hours of opening its crypto donation page. Surprisingly, 90% of these funds came from a single meme coin, sparking debate on the evolving role of meme tokens in real-world causes.
The surge began after Giggle Academy enabled its donation page on September 21. A community-created meme token called Giggle Fund (GIGGLE) redirected 5% of its trading fees to the Academy, generating nearly $900,000 in hours. CZ admitted on X that he was surprised by the efficiency of the mechanism, calling meme coins a “utility” for the first time.
Unlike past charity tokens often accused of rug pulls, GIGGLE has sustained its market cap above $26 million, maintaining a token price around $0.23. The project’s mechanism of donating trading fees instead of relying on direct dumping helped avoid steep selling pressure.
Giggle Academy donations will not pay staff or cover infrastructure, CZ clarified. Instead, all operational expenses will be handled personally by him. Funds will instead be directed toward rewarding creators, incentivizing contributors, and expanding Giggle Academy’s global reach.
“All donations will be on-chain, transparent, and traceable. No fiat,” CZ wrote, promising accountability in how contributions are used. The platform also pledged regular reports to maintain transparency.
For years, meme tokens were dismissed as speculative assets, but CZ’s acknowledgment of their utility marks a turning point. Analysts note that this case may highlight new use cases for meme coins in funding education, charity, and community-driven initiatives.
While CZ stopped short of endorsing any single token, his shift in tone could influence broader sentiment in the crypto space, where memes have increasingly intersected with serious initiatives.
