December 6, 2025 – IOTA has entered its 10th anniversary with a decisive move into the U.S. institutional market, announcing a landmark partnership with BitGo Trust Company, Inc. The collaboration, revealed on December 5, integrates the IOTA Mainnet into BitGo’s regulated custody infrastructure, unlocking compliant access for hedge funds, fintechs, and corporates long restricted by U.S. regulatory barriers.
Founded in 2015 by David Sønstebø and team, IOTA pioneered the Tangle, a directed acyclic graph (DAG) designed to provide feeless, infinitely scalable transactions for the Internet of Things (IoT). Over time, the network has evolved into a broader foundation for real-world assets (RWA), supply chain intelligence, and decentralized finance. The BitGo alliance now positions IOTA for its most significant U.S. expansion to date.
BitGo, active since 2013, is widely regarded as one of the safest and most compliant digital asset custodians in the world. The firm supports more than 1,550 assets and services 4,900 enterprise clients ranging from exchanges like Kraken to global fintechs with up to $250 million in insurance coverage. Its regulated trust framework ensures strict audits, capital requirements, and segregation of client assets.
Through BitGo, institutional users can now custody IOTA in cold storage, execute OTC trades, leverage settlement tools, and integrate compliant programmability for enterprise applications. Developers building with IOTA’s smart contract layer also gain access to regulated rails, while exchanges and market makers benefit from liquidity pathways that could accelerate additional U.S. listings.

The announcement arrives at an opportune moment for IOTA. Trading at $0.1041 with a daily gain of 1.54%, the token has outperformed a broadly declining market. Community sentiment on X has been notably bullish, with users calling the partnership a “turning point” for institutional trust.
Industry analysts highlight synergies with IOTA’s Trade Worldwide Information Network (TWIN), designed for global trade finance, and with new interoperability pipelines through LayerZero. These alignments strengthen IOTA’s positioning across emerging markets, including Africa’s mineral supply chains and ASEAN’s growing stablecoin corridors.
BitGo’s recent U.S. IPO filing adds further credibility, signaling expansion into regulated capital markets, an avenue likely to amplify IOTA’s institutional profile.

Despite strong fundamentals, IOTA’s decentralized application ecosystem remains early-stage, with comparatively low total value locked (TVL). Yet, momentum is building: staking adoption is rising, infrastructure partners are scaling, and enterprise pilots are accelerating. Upcoming 2026 milestones for TWIN and revenue-generating modules could shift IOTA into a new phase of network utility.
As the official announcement summarized: “BitGo will add IOTA Mainnet support, giving U.S. institutions a regulated, insured, and compliant way to hold and trade IOTA.”
A decade after its founding, IOTA is stepping squarely into the institutional arena this time with regulatory firepower behind it.
