LayerAI Mainnet Upgrading to v2 via Hard Fork

May 7, 2025 – LayerAI is set to upgrade its mainnet to LAIv2 through a hard fork scheduled for May 7, 2025. This upgrade aligns with Optimism’s latest updates and brings significant structural changes to improve security, ecosystem compatibility, and the overall functionality of the platform.

Key Changes with LAIv2

The primary reason for the upgrade is Optimism’s transition from Custom Gas Tokens (CGT) to the standard ETH gas model and the adoption of Account Abstraction (AA). These updates will provide stronger security and allow for broader compatibility within the blockchain ecosystem.

As part of the transition, LayerAI will implement structural changes that affect how tokens are represented and transacted on the chain. To maintain full functionality within the new system, users will need to migrate their LAI-ETH tokens to the upgraded network.

What Users Need to Know

• Staked $LAI positions: If users have staked $LAI, their positions will automatically migrate to the new system, meaning no action is required from them.
• Token migration: Users who wish to move their tokens to exchanges are advised to use Gate as the recommended exchange.
• Downtime: The hard fork will lead to a brief chain downtime of 48–72 hours, as the network transitions to LAIv2.
