LayerEdge, a decentralized network that enhances Bitcoin blockspace with zero-knowledge (ZK) proofs and BitVM technology, has launched its Incentivized Testnet following a successful Devnet phase. This milestone reinforces LayerEdge’s mission to create a Bitcoin-backed internet, offering scalable, secure proof aggregation and verification for blockchain ecosystems.
Key Features of the Testnet
- Light Node Support: Users can run light nodes to verify proofs at the leaf level, earning rewards for their participation.
- RISC Zero Integration: The testnet introduces zkVM technology, enabling off-chain heavy computations to reduce gas costs while maintaining Bitcoin-backed security.
- User-Friendly Interface: A simplified dashboard allows users to generate proofs and settle them on Bitcoin Signet with minimal effort.
Devnet Achievements and Future Outlook
The Devnet phase processed over 24,000 batches, verified 240,000 proofs, and saved an estimated $2 million in costs. As LayerEdge transitions to public beta and refines trust-minimized verification via BitVM, it plans to enhance proof settlement capabilities and expand features like Merkle tree visualization. These advancements aim to create a robust foundation for Bitcoin-backed decentralized applications and services.
Testnet Roll-out Structure
Phase 1: Closed Testnet (January 20 — January 28, 2025)
Stress-testing with community access to browser-based light nodes.
Phase 2: Public Beta Testnet (January 28, 2025)
Full launch with options for browser-based and system-based light nodes.
