May 18, 2025 – George Fox, the COO of LinqAI, reported a sophisticated phishing attack targeting the official LinqAI X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday evening. The attackers used a cloned version of the platform to trick the team, with the bait being a violation of X’s terms and conditions.
The phishing attempt began when LinqAI was led to believe that their official account had violated X’s terms, prompting an appeal process. During this process, the two-factor authentication (2FA) security measures were circumvented by the attackers, allowing them to gain unauthorized access to the account.
Once in control, the attackers tried to post fake information related to the \$LNQ token on other chains. However, these fraudulent posts were swiftly removed by X’s support team.
LinqAI has confirmed that they are working with X’s support team to fully regain control of the compromised account. In a post addressing the community, LinqAI emphasized that the official $LNQ token remains listed on the LinqAI website and only exists on the Ethereum blockchain.
To ensure the security of the community, LinqAI has advised users to refrain from engaging with any posts from the compromised X account during this time.
In a follow-up statement, LinqAI confirmed that no other accounts or applications were affected by the attack. The team is committed to providing ongoing updates to the community via their Telegram and Discord channels.
This incident serves as a reminder of the growing sophistication of phishing attacks and the importance of maintaining strong security practices within the blockchain and cryptocurrency ecosystem. LinqAI continues to work diligently to recover their official accounts and protect their community from further harm.
