December 31, 2025 ā Modulr Testnet launches as the project moves toward building a decentralized network for robotics, AI, data, and compute. The release marks the final testing phase ahead of mainnet, with a strong focus on community-driven stress testing.
Modulr Robotics aims to build an open, global network for robotics and AI powered by blockchain. The project sits at the intersection of decentralized physical infrastructure (DePIN), real-time robotics, and AI compute. Modulrās design allows users to remotely operate robots, deploy AI models, and share compute resources through a peer-to-peer marketplace.
By tokenizing access to physical automation, the protocol seeks to lower barriers for industries such as logistics, manufacturing, and remote operations. The testnet launch represents a critical step toward validating this vision at scale.
The Modulr Testnet went live on December 30, 2025, serving as the final validation phase before mainnet deployment. Unlike traditional testnets focused solely on functionality, Modulr emphasizes adversarial and community-driven testing. Beginning in January 2026, users can join āModulr Missionsā designed to simulate real-world conditions.
Tasks include account creation, transaction spamming, and identifying bugs or vulnerabilities. The project will reward participants with $eMDR tokens from its Ecosystem Fund, with additional incentives for uncovering critical issues.
Early demonstrations highlight Modulrās focus on low-latency performance, with block times reaching as low as 0.5 seconds in pre-launch tests. At launch, the testnet processed more than 59,000 blocks with five validators maintaining consensus. While transactions remain minimal pending community engagement, the network metrics show stability.
Modulr has also opened its GitHub repositories to developers, encouraging transparency and external review. These measures aim to harden the protocol ahead of mainnet conditions.
As DePIN and AI narratives converge, Modulrās testnet highlights a shift toward blockchain systems backed by real-world hardware. Robotics and automation represent a multi-hundred-billion-dollar market with growing demand for remote access and monetization. Modulrās model allows idle hardware to generate yield while expanding global access to automation.
If successful, the protocol could bridge on-chain coordination with physical execution. The upcoming mainnet will determine whether this vision can scale beyond experimentation.
