New feature aims to improve DeFi user experience and crosschain functionality

Decentralized exchange PancakeSwap has rolled out a new feature aimed at transforming how users interact with decentralized finance: one-click crosschain swaps. By integrating Across Protocol, PancakeSwap crosschain swaps are now faster, more secure, and easier to use across popular chains like Arbitrum, Base, and BNB Chain.

PancakeSwap crosschain swaps reduce friction in DeFi

Traditionally, crosschain activity required users to interact with external blockchain bridges, often resulting in higher fees, delays, and increased risk. With this new upgrade, PancakeSwap crosschain swaps allow users to move assets directly between chains via its native interface.

Key highlights of the integration:

• Supported networks: Arbitrum, Base, and BNB Chain
• Swap tokens without needing manual bridging
• Avoids locking funds in vulnerable smart contracts
• Reduces overall transaction time and complexity

Across Protocol uses intent-based transfers where users specify what they want to receive, and a network of decentralized relayers competes to fulfill the request.

The PancakeSwap team emphasized the importance of security improvements. Instead of locking assets in smart contracts—a common weakness exploited in past bridge hacks like the $600M Ronin Bridge incident—these swaps are executed in real-time by relayers using their own liquidity.

“This setup improves security and gives users a smoother, faster experience,” explained Chef Kids, the project’s head chef.

Institutional interest in DeFi grows

Simplifying PancakeSwap crosschain swaps may open the doors for greater institutional adoption. According to the team:

• Lower smart contract risk
• Easier DeFi integration for financial institutions

Hart Lambur, co-founder of Across, believes intent-based infrastructure is key to onboarding both institutions and everyday users. It offers “auditability, clean execution, and lower operational burden,” he stated.

Broader trend toward crosschain standards

Other protocols are also exploring standardized crosschain solutions. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin supports Unichain’s ERC-7683, which aims to formalize how orders are broadcast across chains.
