Qubic, the team behind the ambitious Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) project Aigarth, announced the successful completion of Phase One in its development journey. This milestone brings the company closer to creating self-evolving AI systems and sets the stage for the next phase, focused on training artificial neural networks (ANNs).
In a statement on December 4, 2024, Qubic revealed that it has identified promising candidate architectures for ANNs. These networks, which function as digital neurons and synapses, form the foundation of what Qubic calls its “Intelligent Tissue.” This intricate system is designed to mimic the complexity of natural evolution, with intelligence expected to emerge from its configuration.
“Phase One was the longest and most critical stage, akin to the journey of early life on Earth,” said the team in its announcement. “We now transition to training these networks to evolve and adapt, a process that mirrors natural selection.”
Phase Two: Evolutionary Training Begins
Starting December 4, Qubic has begun training its Intelligent Tissue, marking the start of Phase Two. This stage will involve applying an evolutionary framework where artificial intelligence systems improve through incremental modifications and self-optimization. Those that fail to meet performance benchmarks will be refined or discarded, while successful systems advance to more complex tasks.
The company credits its computational achievements to its miners, who provide the processing power to fuel the project. Qubic’s network, now the sixth-largest supercomputer globally and the largest decentralized system, plays a pivotal role in enabling this groundbreaking research.
Future Prospects and Industry Impact
Qubic’s approach to AGI stands apart from traditional AI models, such as Large Language Models (LLMs), which the company describes as limited and incapable of leading to true AGI. By focusing on AI systems that can train and evolve other AI systems, Qubic aims to redefine the field and create a decentralized ecosystem powered by its QUBIC token.
The company plans to release more technical details in a forthcoming scientific paper ahead of Christmas 2024. With Phase Two now underway, Qubic continues its audacious quest to unlock the full potential of AGI, a development it says could transform industries and tackle humanity’s greatest challenges.
