In June, the number of cryptocurrency automated teller machines (ATMs) saw a slight decline. However, installers added 377 new ATMs during the month. Since January 2024, data shows companies have deployed a total of 2,564 crypto ATMs globally.
At the end of 2022, there was a notable drop in bitcoin or ATMs. The worldwide count fell from 39,541 to 32,471 by July 2023. Currently, the total number of crypto ATMs stands at 38,279, indicating that companies have added 5,808 machines over the past 11 months.
Companies have installed approximately 2,564 ATMs this year. Metrics from coinatmradar.com show monthly increases except for June, which experienced a minor reduction of 115 ATMs, followed by the installation of 377 new machines. To break the 2022 record, companies need to install an estimated 1,262 more bitcoin ATMs.
The leading crypto ATM operators are Bitcoin Depot, Coinflip, and Athena Bitcoin. Bitcoin Depot operates 7,543 machines, Coinflip manages 5,057, and Athena oversees 2,756 ATMs. The United States hosts 82.7% of the world’s crypto ATMs, while Canada has 7.7%.
The global expansion of ATMs reflects a strong market demand for localized financial services. Despite a minor dip in June, the subsequent installation of 377 ATMs demonstrates continued growth. Major operators continue to expand their networks, playing crucial roles in the industry’s development.
