Telegram Unveils Cocoon: A Decentralized AI Compute Network

30th October 2025 – Telegram has introduced Cocoon, a new decentralized AI network. It runs on The Open Network (TON). The goal is to power private AI tasks using community GPU power. Telegram will be the first major user of this network.

CEO Pavel Durov made the announcement at the Blockchain Life 2025 event in Dubai. He said Cocoon connects developers to GPU owners. These GPU owners earn Toncoin (TON) by processing AI workloads.

Telegram plans to use Cocoon across its own AI tools and Mini Apps. With over a billion users, Telegram gives the network an instant user base.

How Cocoon Works

Cocoon lets developers run AI models without exposing user data. Queries stay encrypted throughout the process. Not even GPU owners can see the content.

Developers must apply to use Cocoon. They need to share their model details, expected queries, and data sizes. This ensures the network can handle the load.

GPU owners also apply. They must list GPU specs like model type, VRAM, uptime, and number of units.

This creates a two-sided marketplace. Developers get affordable, private compute. GPU owners earn rewards for contributing resources.

Aiming to Replace Centralized AI

Telegram built Cocoon to challenge Big Tech. Companies like AWS and Azure control most of today’s AI infrastructure. Telegram wants to change that.

Durov said centralized AI platforms collect too much user data. Cocoon offers a privacy-first alternative. It uses encrypted compute powered by blockchain.

Earlier this year, Durov previewed the project during a visit to Kazakhstan. At that time, he introduced Telegram’s AI lab focused on privacy and blockchain.

AlphaTON Capital Supports Cocoon

AlphaTON Capital is helping to launch the network. The firm is listed on Nasdaq. It focuses on TON blockchain infrastructure.

AlphaTON will deploy powerful GPUs across global data centers. These GPUs will support large AI models like DeepSeek and Qwen.

CEO Brittany Kaiser called the launch a major milestone. She said it combines blockchain, AI, and data protection in one platform. Chairman Enzo Villani added that Cocoon meets growing demand for secure AI.

A New Model for AI Compute

The TON blockchain will handle Cocoon’s transaction load. Its multi-chain design processes millions of transactions per second.

This structure makes Cocoon scalable. It supports many AI tasks while keeping pricing open and competitive.

The network uses supply and demand to set prices. Developers and GPU providers agree on costs. This may lead to lower prices than traditional cloud platforms.

However, this also introduces risk. Service quality may vary due to decentralized infrastructure.

What Comes Next

Telegram will integrate Cocoon into its ecosystem. AI tools within the app will run on the network. This gives Cocoon an immediate edge over rivals.

Max Crown, CEO of the TON Foundation, said Cocoon is part of a larger shift. He called it a move toward user-owned AI infrastructure.

Cocoon enters a growing market of decentralized compute networks. Competitors like Akash and Render offer similar services. But Telegram’s user base gives it a unique advantage.

Applications for developers and GPU providers are already open. The full launch is expected in November 2025.
