Zilliqa 1.0 Completes, Zilliqa 2.0 Launches June 23 – Agate Phase Begins

Zilliqa 1.0 wrapped up at block 4,770,087. The final new transaction processed at block 4,769,950. This marks the end of the first chapter in Zilliqa’s journey.

On June 23, 2025, Zilliqa will begin its phased migration to version 2.0. The new mainnet is expected to launch just days after. This marks a major network overhaul.

• Scilla ↔ EVM interoperability
  Developers can now build using both Zilliqa’s Scilla and Ethereum-compatible Solidity.

The Big Upgrades

PoS Consensus
Zilliqa shifts from PoW + pBFT to Proof‑of‑Stake. This means faster, greener, more cost-effective transactions. Validators and delegators now earn rewards based on staking.

X‑Shards
New “X‑Shards” operate as mini-blockchains within the network. They boost throughput while keeping security intact.

Cross‑Chain Friendly
Native EVM compatibility and a Universal Cross‑Chain Broker enable easy bridges and swaps across blockchains.

Smart Accounts & Light Clients
Account abstraction brings programmability to wallets. Light clients operate without needing full node storage, ideal for mobile and lightweight setups.
