September 1, 2025 — Binance has appointed SB Seker as its new Binance APAC head. The move aims to strengthen compliance and improve relations with regulators as scrutiny intensifies across the Asia-Pacific region.
Binance announced SB Seker as its new Binance APAC head, responsible for compliance, regulatory engagement, and business growth.
Seker previously served as Senior Vice President at Crypto.com, where he worked across APAC and MENASA markets. Earlier in his career, he held roles as a litigation lawyer in Australia and as a central banking lawyer at Singapore’s Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).
“I look forward to working closely with regulators, partners, and the community to build strong and compliant operations,” Seker said in a statement.
The leadership change comes after AUSTRAC ordered a full audit of Binance Australia in late August. Regulators cited weak anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorism financing (CTF) systems, along with high staff turnover and insufficient compliance resources.
Binance Australia was given 28 days to propose a panel of independent auditors. AUSTRAC will choose from the list, and the audit’s findings will go directly to the regulator.
Binance CEO Richard Teng stressed the importance of the region, calling APAC “a key market for Binance.” He said Seker’s deep experience across diverse markets makes him well positioned to lead the company’s next phase of regional growth.
Industry watchers say Binance’s ability to retain market share depends on its compliance record. The hiring of a new Binance APAC head signals the exchange’s commitment to address long-standing governance concerns.
Binance has long faced global regulatory scrutiny, from the SEC in the U.S. to financial authorities in the U.K., Japan, and Singapore. In APAC, regulators have intensified oversight, demanding stricter compliance standards.
The appointment of a compliance-focused executive signals Binance’s acknowledgment that growth in the region requires rebuilding credibility. With competitors expanding in Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia, Binance’s ability to retain dominance may hinge on improved regulatory relations.
The appointment of SB Seker as the new Binance APAC head marks a critical step in Binance’s attempt to address mounting compliance challenges. As the AUSTRAC audit looms, Seker’s experience in law and financial regulation will be tested in steering the exchange through one of its most closely watched regional markets.
