CrowdWalrus Goes Live Introducing Crowdfunding to Sui

Background and Context

CrowdWalrus emerged following the Walrus mainnet launch on March 27, 2025. Mysten Labs developed Walrus as a programmable decentralized storage network built on Sui. It allows developers to store large amounts of data permanently while keeping it accessible on-chain. The Walrus Foundation later launched its RFP program to fund applications that use this storage layer, and CrowdWalrus became one of the key projects supported through this initiative.

Crowdfunding already exists on other blockchains. For example, Gitcoin supports open-source funding on Ethereum, and Juicebox enables DAO fundraising. However, the Sui ecosystem lacked a native platform that combined decentralized payments with permanent on-chain storage. Therefore, CrowdWalrus introduces the first fully decentralized crowdfunding platform designed specifically for Sui and Walrus integration.

Although WAL now trades around $0.07 to $0.08 with a market cap near $120 million, development activity has continued to expand. CrowdWalrus combines Sui smart contracts with Walrus decentralized storage to deliver transparent and permanent crowdfunding. Creators can connect their Sui wallet, set funding goals, and launch campaigns instantly. The platform also assigns each campaign a permanent SuiNS subname, which acts as a unique and owned campaign identity.

Smart contracts automatically handle contributions. Funds transfer directly from contributors to creators without platform custody. This removes fees, reduces counterparty risk, and improves transparency.

Walrus stores all campaign data permanently, ensuring public verifiability and censorship resistance. Contributors can track funding progress and campaign updates in real time. Additionally, creators can manage multiple campaigns from a single wallet.

Sponsorship Program

CrowdWalrus is covering gas fees and WAL storage costs for the first 100 campaigns to encourage early adoption. Several ecosystem projects and public goods initiatives have already launched campaigns, demonstrating early traction.
