Wellgistics, a Florida-based pharmaceutical distribution company, has announced its decision to integrate XRP as a treasury and payments asset. The move positions Wellgistics as one of the few publicly traded U.S. companies to adopt the Ripple-affiliated cryptocurrency for financial operations.
According to the company’s May 8 announcement, Wellgistics intends to leverage XRP and its underlying blockchain technology to enhance remittance speeds and reduce settlement fees. This shift aims to bring efficiency to payments among pharmacies, vendors, and manufacturers in its network.
Traditional financial processes like automated clearinghouse (ACH) payments and wire transfers often take up to three days to settle. These legacy systems also come with transaction costs ranging from $10 to $30, along with limited transparency. In contrast, XRP transactions settle in 3–5 seconds with fees of less than a cent.
“We believe that there are certain advantages to integrating XRP and its related infrastructure into its healthcare ecosystem,” Wellgistics said in its press release.
To fund its XRP integration and treasury strategy, Wellgistics secured a $50 million Equity Line of Credit (ELOC) from New York-based LDA Capital. This credit facility will support the deployment of programmable liquidity and blockchain-based payment systems within the company’s medical sector operations.
Wellgistics CEO Brian Norton emphasized the strategic shift, saying, “The future winners in healthcare won’t be defined by the size of their buildings, but by the speed of their rails and the efficiency of their platforms. We are betting on infrastructure—not inertia.”
Wellgistics’ move comes as XRP sees growing acceptance among institutions. Later this month, the Chicago Mercantile Group (CME) is set to introduce cash-settled XRP futures, signaling confidence in the asset’s liquidity and stability.
Ripple also recently completed a $1.25 billion acquisition of prime brokerage Hidden Road, unlocking more institutional use cases for XRP and the XRP Ledger. These developments mark a significant shift for XRP, especially following Ripple’s $50 million settlement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). This settlement concluded a long-standing legal dispute, clearing the path for Ripple’s continued expansion in blockchain-based financial solutions.
With this integration, Wellgistics aims to set a new standard for transparency and efficiency in pharmaceutical supply chain payments. By adopting XRP, the company hopes to eliminate the banking bottlenecks that have long plagued the medical sector, signaling a transformative shift toward blockchain-driven healthcare solutions.
