December 10, 2025: MANTRA has advised all users holding $OM on Osmosis to halt trading as preparations intensify for the upcoming MANTRA token upgrade, scheduled to take place after January 15, 2026. To qualify for the full 4:1 token redenomination, users must transfer their tokens back to the MANTRA mainnet before the deadline. Those who do not complete the migration will forfeit the additional tokens generated during the upgrade. The liquidity removal and mandatory transfer requirements mark a major milestone in MANTRA’s ongoing ecosystem restructuring.
As part of the transition toward the MANTRA token upgrade, MANTRA is withdrawing liquidity from the OM/BTC pool on Osmosis. Users are urged to end all buying, selling, or liquidity provisioning involving $OM on the chain.
The redenomination approved through MANTRA’s November 2025 governance vote will convert every 1 $OM into 4 $MANTRA tokens. Token value will adjust proportionally to keep the market cap, diluted valuation, and real economic value unchanged. Thus, a holder of 100 $OM will receive 400 $MANTRA, with the price shifting to reflect the new supply level.
Post-upgrade, the maximum token supply will expand from 2.5 billion to 10 billion. Staking rewards and inflation rates will remain equivalent in value terms, ensuring no change in the financial outcome for validators or delegators. While holders on the MANTRA mainnet will receive the new tokens automatically, users on Osmosis and other Cosmos chains must migrate manually using IBC transfer tools. This ensures they remain eligible for the full benefits of the MANTRA token upgrade.
The shift from the $OM ticker to $MANTRA aims to unify MANTRA’s branding and strengthen its position as a comprehensive blockchain ecosystem. Several strategic motivations support this transition:
Brand alignment: Consolidates token identity with MANTRA Chain, MANTRA Finance, and MANTRA Zone.
Institutional credibility: Enhances confidence among traditional finance partners.
RWA-readiness: Provides consistent naming for real-world asset tokenization initiatives.
Ecosystem clarity: Establishes a coherent structure across all MANTRA platforms.
By adopting the more descriptive and ecosystem-aligned $MANTRA ticker, the project positions itself for deeper institutional engagement and broader utility. This rebranding reinforces the long-term direction behind the MANTRA token upgrade and supports MANTRA’s ambitions at the intersection of decentralized finance and regulated capital markets.
Since Osmosis operates within the Cosmos network, users must migrate their tokens to MANTRA Token Upgrade mainnet through Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC). The steps are straightforward:
Withdraw all positions: Remove liquidity and un stake any $OM.
Set up a wallet: Install Keplr (recommended), Leap, or Cosmostation.
MANTRA RPC: https://rpc.mantrachain.io
Chain ID: mantra-1
Start the IBC transfer: In app.osmosis.zone → Assets → IBC Transfer.
Enter details: Select $OM, choose MANTRA mainnet, and input your mantra1… wallet address.
Confirm: Pay the small gas fee and wait for confirmation.
Verify: Check your balance on app.mantra.zone.
Cosmos users on chains such as Stargaze follow similar steps. ERC-20 holders must instead use the official MANTRA Token Upgrade bridge before January 15, 2026.
To receive the full benefit of the MANTRA token upgrade, users must transfer their $OM to MANTRA mainnet before January 15, 2026. Tokens left on external chains which include Osmosis then after the deadline will not qualify for the 4:1 redenomination. Because the upgrade multiplies token balances by four, failing to migrate results in a significantly reduced supply compared to mainnet holders.
MANTRA encourages early migration to prevent delays caused by network congestion or wallet misconfiguration. Sending a small test transfer first is recommended to ensure accuracy.
During our discussion with the MANTRA team about the ongoing token upgrade, the team provided several important governance references to help clarify the transition. Governance Proposal 17 outlines the recommended steps for token holders, while another proposal explains the deprecation of the legacy ERC-20 OM token. They also highlighted Proposal 26, which details how the upcoming token split will be carried out. These resources give the community clear, reliable guidance as MANTRA moves into the next stage of its upgrade.
