PayPal has officially introduced PayPal Links, a personalized P2P payment feature designed to make money transfers easier than ever. The new tool launched in the United States on September 16. Expansion to global markets including the United Kingdom and Italy is scheduled to begin later this month.
This feature allows users to generate a unique, one-time link for sending or requesting money. The link can be shared in any conversation, whether through text, direct message, or email. As a result, PayPal is enhancing the convenience of personal transactions, while bringing more users into its growing financial ecosystem.
Looking ahead, PayPal will integrate cryptocurrency support directly into its new P2P payment system. Users in the U.S. will soon be able to send Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), PayPal USD (PYUSD), and other digital assets to recipients using PayPal, Venmo, or compatible crypto wallets.
This upgrade will enable users to transfer crypto just as easily as they send dollars today. It also reinforces PayPal’s long-term strategy to make digital assets a mainstream option for personal finance and payments.
According to Diego Scotti, General Manager of PayPal’s Consumer Group, “Whether you’re texting, messaging, or emailing, your money now follows your conversations.”
Using the new feature is simple:
Unclaimed links will expire after 10 days. Senders can also send reminders or cancel the link if needed. This system helps users maintain control while streamlining how money moves between people.
One of the most attractive features of PayPal P2P crypto transfers is their tax-exempt status for personal transactions. Transfers between friends and family will not trigger 1099-K reporting requirements. This means users will not receive tax forms for gifts, reimbursements, or everyday expense sharing, keeping personal payments private and hassle-free.
Over the past year, PayPal has taken several steps to integrate crypto more deeply into its offerings. These include:
In addition to launching PayPal Links, the company recently unveiled PayPal World, a global initiative connecting digital payment systems and wallets. Together, these tools position PayPal at the forefront of the next generation of P2P payments.
