20th September – Social media platform X has uncovered a bribery network involving crypto scammers. The platform revealed that these bad actors tried to pay intermediaries to bribe employees. Their goal was to reinstate suspended accounts that had been banned for scams or platform manipulation.
X announced the discovery on September 20, 2025, through its Global Government Affairs account. The company said it had already started legal action against those involved. It is also working directly with law enforcement.
“Suspended accounts involved in crypto scams paid middlemen. These middlemen then attempted to bribe X employees. The aim was to reinstate banned accounts,” the company stated.
X reported that the same individuals were also active on other platforms. These include Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Minecraft, and Roblox. The scammers used these platforms to trick users through fake promotions and fraudulent activity.
Many of these actors are linked to a cybercrime group called “The Com.” Also known as “Hacker Com” or “The Community,” this group has a long record of cyberattacks. It has been connected to data breaches in the U.S. court system and other government-related targets.
X has filed legal proceedings against those involved in the crypto bribery scheme. The company confirmed that it is assisting law enforcement in ongoing investigations.
This follows several recent account hijackings. In June 2025, hackers took over the X account of venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz. They used it to promote a fake token. Similar scams have affected accounts tied to Curve Finance, ZKSync, Jupiter, and other crypto platforms.
In April, scammers also took control of a UK lawmaker’s X account to promote a fake Solana token. Actor Dean Norris was also a victim. His account was used to promote a memecoin scam named DEAN, which claimed to raise $8 million.
In July, the FBI issued a formal warning about “The Com.” The agency said this group includes mostly minors and operates across several countries. It listed crimes such as account takeovers, extortion, and system breaches.
On September 19, 2025, the U.S. Department of Justice charged a British teenager linked to the group. Prosecutors accused the teen of participating in over 120 cyberattacks. One of those targeted the U.S. Courts system. Another involved London’s public transport system in 2024. Authorities said the teen worked with the hacking group “Scattered Spider,” which has ties to “The Com.”
