XRP Ledger will launch its first DAO, XAO, later this summer. The DAO will enable XRP holders to participate in decentralized governance, funding projects and influencing network growth.

June 19, 2025 – The XRP Ledger (XRPL) is moving toward greater decentralization with the planned launch of XAO DAO, its first community-led governance body. The initiative is designed to give XRP holders a voice in network decisions while funding innovation through a formal grant process.
The launch is expected later this summer, between June and September 2025.
XAO DAO introduces a decentralized governance model to XRPL. Rather than creating a new governance token, the DAO will use XRP for voting and funding. This aims to streamline participation and maintain utility for XRP holders.

XRPL has also seen wallet activity surge from 40,000 to 295,000 active addresses. However, this growth has brought an increase in scam-related activity, which XAO DAO hopes to counter through stronger community oversight.
Development on XAO DAO began in late 2024 with support from XRPL Labs, Ripple, XRPL Commons, and the XRPL Foundation. A waitlist is now open for early participants, with the DAO expected to launch by September 2025.
XRP Ledger was first launched in 2012, making it one of the oldest continuously operating public blockchains in the crypto space.
