Patrick Dai, born Dai Xiahong, is the founder of Qtum (QTUM), a blockchain platform that merges Bitcoin’s UTXO model with Ethereum’s Virtual Machine to enable secure and scalable smart contracts. A computer science graduate from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a former Alibaba employee, Dai was active in early blockchain projects like Bitbay and VeChain before launching Qtum in 2016 with Jordan Earls and Neil Mahi.
Under his leadership, Qtum raised $15 million in its 2017 ICO and positioned itself as a bridge between Bitcoin’s stability and Ethereum’s flexibility, aiming to serve both enterprises and developers. Dai is recognized as one of the earliest Chinese blockchain entrepreneurs, though he has maintained a relatively low public profile in recent years.
