August 22, 2025 – Former kickboxing champion Andrew Tate is facing heavy losses after shorting Kanye West’s newly launched YZY token. His Hyperliquid account is down nearly $700,000, raising questions about his trading strategy and the risks of celebrity-driven memecoins.
Andrew Tate opened a leveraged short position on the YZY token at $0.85 but quickly faced losses. Blockchain analytics platform Lookonchain revealed that Tate’s Hyperliquid account had made 80 trades, of which only 29 were profitable. His cumulative Andrew Tate Hyperliquid losses are now approaching $700,000.
The YZY token, launched by Kanye West on Solana, initially surged 1,400% in the first hour before falling more than 74%. Early wallets dumped large amounts of the token, with the top 13 wallets profiting a combined $24.5 million. This volatility added to Andrew Tate Hyperliquid losses as his short position failed to recover.
Tate previously promoted over 10 Solana-based memecoins, including Daddy Tate (DADDY), Roost (ROOST), and TopG (TOPG). Most crashed by 99% soon after his endorsements. Bubblemaps reported that many of these tokens had insider allocations, worsening investor concerns. These failed projects add more context to Andrew Tate Hyperliquid losses and his ongoing struggles in crypto trading.
Over 30 celebrity-endorsed tokens launched on Solana in June 2024, many now down by over 73%. Alongside Andrew Tate, figures like 50 Cent, Caitlyn Jenner, Iggy Azalea, and Ronaldinho promoted similar tokens. However, scandals such as insider allegations around Khamzat Chimaev’s Smash (SMASH) token show that celebrity influence often leaves retail investors at a loss.
Andrew Tate Hyperliquid losses highlight the dangers of following celebrity-backed crypto trends. While Kanye West’s YZY token generated massive attention, its rapid crash and Tate’s failed short position underline the risks of trading hype-driven memecoins. For investors, this serves as another reminder that celebrity influence does not guarantee profitable outcomes.
