October 24, 2025 – Switzerland-based Bitcoin-only app Relai has officially secured a MiCA license from France’s Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF), becoming one of the first Bitcoin-focused firms authorized under the European Union’s new Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) framework.
The license allows Relai to expand regulated BTC services across Europe, marking a key milestone for Bitcoin adoption in the EU’s growing crypto ecosystem.
Founded in Zurich in 2020, Relai offers a Bitcoin-only investment platform that lets users buy, sell, and save BTC with full self-custody giving them direct control over their assets.
The new MiCA license allows Relai to offer regulated BTC investment services and integrate SEPA transfers. It also raises trading limits for users across Europe.
“This is a huge milestone for us and for the Bitcoin community,” said CEO Julian Liniger, adding that the firm will expand to France first, then across Europe.

Relai’s co-founder Adem Bilican described the approval as a defining moment for Europe’s Bitcoin industry:
“Our goal is clear bringing Bitcoin to as many people as possible. Simple, secure, regulated.”
The approval follows Relai’s 2024 Series A funding round, which raised $12 million led by Ego Death Capital. Other investors included Plan B Bitcoin Fund, Timechain, and Solit Group. The funds were initially earmarked to pursue MiCA registration, aligning with the company’s long-term expansion roadmap.
Relai’s MiCA license could accelerate Bitcoin mainstream adoption across the continent as more EU nations align under standardized crypto rules.
France’s proactive stance, following its oversight of Binance and Blockchain.com, strengthens its role in digital asset regulation. The country is emerging as a leading hub for regulated crypto growth.
Industry analysts view Relai’s milestone as a sign of Bitcoin’s growing maturity in Europe. It bridges the gap between the cryptocurrency’s decentralized ethos and institutional trust.
