Cake Wallet, the privacy-first crypto wallet, just dropped its much-anticipated 5.4 update on September 12, 2025. Known for its open-source, non-custodial approach, Cake now supports even smoother cross-chain payments and native Tor integration on iOS, a big leap in mobile privacy.
The update rolled out simultaneously on iOS, Android, Windows, macOS, and Linux. The launch was announced on Cake Wallet’s official X account, linking to the blog post titled “Pay Anything: Making Crypto Work the Way You Think It Should.”
The headline feature? “Pay Anything.” Users can now send crypto to virtually any address, regardless of the recipient’s blockchain. For example, sending BTC to an ETH address? Cake handles it in the background, seamlessly swapping through privacy-focused DEXs like ChangeNOW or SideShift.
There’s no need for manual steps. Just enter the amount and address. The feature supports BTC, XMR, LTC, ETH, DOGE, and more. It essentially makes crypto transactions as intuitive as sending fiat, no bridges or chains to worry about.
While Android and desktop users have long enjoyed full Tor support, iOS lagged behind due to system restrictions. That changes now. Version 5.4 brings native Tor integration to iPhones, routing all syncs, exchanges, and transactions through the privacy network.
Users can also toggle between Tor-only mode and standard connections, depending on whether they prefer speed or anonymity.
Cake doubles down on Bitcoin privacy with enhanced Silent Payments support. This means BTC users can now receive funds privately – without ever sharing a public address. The update builds on Cake’s earlier PayJoin v2 integration and now plays nicely with “Pay Anything” too.
It’s a massive boost for users who value confidentiality in their Bitcoin transactions.
Notably, no new assets were added in this release (DOGE joined in v5.3), but support for existing ones like Litecoin MWEB got stronger.
Cake Wallet continues expanding its ecosystem. Its Monero-only variant (Monero.com) also received the v5.4 upgrade. Companion app Cupcake, launched earlier this year, turns old phones into secure cold storage, a smart touch for serious HODLers.
Real voices. Real reactions.
@cakewallet Try allowing merchants to accept payment directly in fiat; @xMoney_com and the likes have this option.
@cakewallet Does this also work for paying lightning invoices using on-chain BTC?
@cakewallet Ohhh, do these updates include support for decentralized giant #Digibyte? Checks app 😒
