September 18, 2025 — The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has granted SEC crypto ETP approval for Grayscale’s Digital Large Cap Fund (GLDC), marking the first multi-asset cryptocurrency exchange-traded product (ETP) in the United States. The ETP will provide investors exposure to Bitcoin, Ether, XRP, Solana, and Cardano under new generic listing standards.
The SEC’s decision gives traditional investors regulated access to multiple cryptocurrencies in one product, without needing to hold tokens directly. Grayscale CEO Peter Mintzberg hailed it as a “first-of-its-kind” milestone for the U.S. crypto industry.
The move follows the success of spot Bitcoin ETFs and is expected to strengthen confidence in regulated altcoin exposure.
The approval coincides with a surge in altcoin activity. Coinbase recently forecasted a “full-scale altcoin season” beginning in September, citing historical cycles where altcoins outperformed Bitcoin. Open interest dominance in altcoins has also spiked, supporting the narrative of a broader rally.
The product was cleared under new generic listing standards, developed by the SEC’s Crypto Task Force. This framework accelerates reviews of spot crypto ETPs listed on major exchanges like Nasdaq and Cboe.
The task force, formed in January 2025, signaled a pivot away from enforcement-first approaches under former Chair Gary Gensler. Industry leaders credit the group with advancing regulatory clarity and enabling products like Grayscale’s GLDC.
Grayscale plans to list the Digital Large Cap Fund “expeditiously,” giving U.S. investors access to a diversified crypto basket. Market analysts believe institutional demand could expand liquidity and potentially drive price momentum in major altcoins.
With the SEC crypto ETP approval, Grayscale has positioned itself at the forefront of regulated multi-asset crypto investing, setting the stage for similar products in the near future.
