berachain-bera is a high-performance, EVM-identical Layer 1 blockchain built using the Cosmos SDK and powered by a novel Proof of Liquidity (PoL) consensus mechanism. Fully compatible with Ethereum’s Virtual Machine (EVM), berachain-bera enables developers to deploy smart contracts and tools without modifications while optimizing DeFi liquidity, governance, and throughput.
berachain-bera was created to solve key limitations in blockchain networks, such as locked capital in staking, fragmented DeFi liquidity, and high gas costs on Ethereum. Its mission is to align network security with active liquidity, allowing assets to remain productive while securing the chain and enabling faster, cheaper, and more efficient decentralized finance at scale.
$BERA is the native utility token of berachain-bera. It’s used to pay transaction fees, participate in staking and validation, and interact with DeFi apps across the network. BERA is also burned via fees, reducing supply over time to help maintain value.
Validators must stake BERA to join the active set and secure the chain. Users and LPs earn governance token BGT by locking liquidity and contributing to reward vaults. BGT can be burned to mint more BERA, creating a circular economic system.
The initial supply of BERA is around 500 million, with a 10% annual inflation governed by the protocol. BERA plays a central role in network security, economic alignment, and DeFi utility across the ecosystem.
