November 7, 2025 – The Mysticeti v2 Sui upgrade has gone live, introducing a deep redesign of how Sui processes transactions by merging validation directly into consensus and deploying a new Transaction Driver. The Mysticeti v2 Sui upgrade eliminates redundant pre-consensus checks, significantly reduces end-to-end latency, lowers network overhead, and positions Sui for a new phase of scalable, DAG-based performance across high-load environments.
The core advancement in the Mysticeti v2 Sui upgrade is the removal of the old pre-consensus certification stage. Previously, validators performed a separate round of validation votes before transactions entered consensus, which added both CPU overhead and latency during busy periods. Mysticeti v2 folds this process into the same DAG structure that Sui already uses for block creation, meaning that implicit accept votes are carried through block ancestry while explicit votes are only needed for rejections.
By leveraging the structure of the DAG instead of broadcasting signatures for every transaction, the network reduces redundant compute cycles and eliminates delays tied to cross-validator coordination. This unified approach brings Sui significantly closer to the performance goals laid out when DAG-based consensus first arrived on mainnet in 2024, allowing high-volume workloads to settle without the bottlenecks that existed in v1.
A major bottleneck in earlier versions was Quorum Driver, which required broadcasting every transaction to all validators, collecting individual signatures, re-broadcasting certificates, and then waiting for a quorum of execution results. The Mysticeti v2 Sui upgrade replaces this architecture with Transaction Driver, a single-path submission model that sends transactions to just one validator chosen dynamically based on historical responsiveness and latency.
That validator anchors the transaction in consensus and returns a complete set of certified effects, avoiding the heavy CPU and bandwidth costs associated with multi-broadcast flows. This shift results in faster confirmations, fewer dropped transactions under load, and better resilience to slow or unstable validators because the driver automatically retries with alternative nodes when necessary. Early deployment data from Asia and Europe already shows 25–35% reductions in confirmation times across full nodes using Transaction Driver.

Beyond reducing latency, the Mysticeti v2 Sui upgrade is engineered to raise sustainable throughput by optimizing how validators interact with the DAG. Because validators only issue explicit reject votes and rely on implicit acceptances through ancestry, far fewer network messages are needed even during transaction spikes. The protocol also evaluates certifications only when necessary instead of doing so uniformly across all transactions, reducing computational overhead during peak throughput bursts.
This more selective verification approach plays a crucial role in stabilizing performance for applications with continuous transaction flows such as gaming, DeFi, real-time marketplaces, and high-frequency micro-transactions. Additional improvements like better garbage collection, consistent block propagation, and smart ancestor selection further strengthen the network by eliminating weak propagation paths and reducing dependence on slow validators.
The latest upgrade is part of a multi-phase roadmap aiming to push Sui toward even lower latency and sub-second confirmations. Future phases will cut the typical number of message rounds for transaction commits from four to three. This change will accelerate settlement during market-wide congestion. Another major step will stream consensus blocks directly to full nodes. This will let them access uncommitted transactions immediately rather than waiting for execution results, reducing dApp wait times.
The team is also addressing protocol-level deadlocks involving owned objects. This work ensures that the object-centric execution model remains efficient, even under heavy parallelization. These forward-looking changes build on the Mysticeti v2 Sui upgrade. Together, they aim to make Sui one of the fastest production-grade blockchains for both enterprise and consumer workloads.
